Mountain High is a ski and snowboard resort located an hour north of Los Angeles. The mountain is known for its state of the art terrain park, 59 runs and convenient proximity to LA. When Mountain High hired Smarter in 2009 they had 4,628 Facebook fans, no Twitter presence and very little online interaction with their customers.
While we can’t claim control of the snow gods, the Smarter team was able to equip Mountain High with a fully customized and comprehensive social media marketing campaign. Utilizing Facebook, Twitter, online PR and interactive mobile technology, we helped Southern California’s closest winter resort to the most successful season on record, lift tickets were sold out on many of the weekends and there were days during the season when the roads to the resort were shut down due to traffic jams.
Why did this happen? Simply put, there was an increase in the interaction between the mountain and their customers. Mountain High went from a few thousand Facebook fans to over 17,000, contributing to the 426% increase of fan interactions on the web. With updates on snow conditions, event schedule and exclusive promotions, Mountain High took their experience off the slopes.
But it didn’t stop there, the Smarter team designed a mobile photo contest, allowing snowboarders and skiers to capture photos of themselves on the mountain and send them in to be posted on the Mountain High website and Facebook page. This led to thousands of photo submissions, comments and likes, all of which further increased interaction with the brand.
The strategy that Smarter developed for Mountain High created a give-and-take relationship between Mountain High and its growing base of loyal skiers and boarders who now use social media to receive the latest updates and info that keep them coming in masses all winter long.
