eNotes.com is an educational resource providing stdy guides, lesson plans, homework help and communities for students and teachers alike. SmarterSM honed in on using creative Facebook contests for maximum payoff for the site.

Situation

eNotes.com and Smarter decided to conduct a Facebook-based giveaway of a brand new iPad. iPads had just hit the market, and we believed people would be clamouring to get their hands on one.

However, there was a surprising lack of interest. We discovered that while theiPad was a valuable prize, everyone at the time was giving it away — the internet was oversaturated with iPad giveaways. Especially coming from a little known brand, eNotes.com, an iPad giveaway came off as spam.

Solution

SmarterSM moved forward with a duo of unique and innovative giveaways
instead, with clearly designed goals and purposes. We moved from spam to bacon, to coffee, not only expanding and strengthening the eNotes fanbase, but gleaning key research as well.
